Until you physically start your first day at your new job, you should always keep yourself on high alert. Unfortunately, the job market these days teaches us that you should not rest until you have the job tightly in your grasp, and that doesn't happen until you step foot on your first day.

A job can fall between the cracks at so many points throughout the hiring process–whether it is during the countless interviews, the references, getting the offer letter, or signing the contracts. So many things can lead to the candidate remaining jobless; it's hard to keep track.

It is much better to manage expectations and lower your hopes when it comes to the job market. Better to be pleasantly surprised by waking up in the morning of your first job and realizing that you got it than to be devastated finding out it didn't work out, if you ask us.

    angelaelle Ugh sorry. Until bot in seat I don't count on any job. I had a similar thing happen - 4 rounds of interviews, an offer, then 2 days later "sorry, job is on hold". I found out later they hired an internal candidate.
